Evelyn Nava-Fischer

The role of Knowledge Transfer in the Regulation of Biosecurity (in which she has a particular interest on the implications for biosecurity of the Biodiversity and EU-Trade regulations with developing countries).
Career Experience and Qualifications
Evelyn Nava has been research associate and technical adviser for international organizations. Her research projects have involved, among others, the political economy of knowledge transfer and innovation systems; and her technical expertise, the multilateral and European technical cooperation in trade, green technologies and industrial development for Latin America. Evelyn was research associate at the social and human sciences department of UNESCO in Paris, contributing with socio-economic research to the integrative (public policy, rural planning and legal) working group to improve knowledges’ transfer and research governance in developing countries. In this organisation, additionally, she familiarized with the work of the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST) and on the implications of Bioethics for the developing world.
At the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), she prepared, among others, the training proposals on Technical Barriers to Trade (Biosafety Standards, Intellectual Propery Rights and Competition) and socio-technical partnerships for EuropAid, and on the green technologies markets of the World Bank in Asia and Latin America. In Brussels, she assisted in the preparation of the Bilateral Civil Society Summit Europe-Latin America (ed. Mexico 2004) and was trained in the REX working groups on Trade (with the EU DG-Trade) and the European Enlargement at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC/ECOSOC). In Mexico, Evelyn was a business manager of the Private Sector Umbrella Council (CCE) in the northern state of Durango.
She graduated in Economics in Mexico at the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) and the INSEEC in Paris; and post-graduated in Institutional Economics and Geography at La Sorbonne in Paris. She has been fellow of the French Government, the German Bucerius School of Die Zeit foundation, and holds the Richard Whipp Grant for cross-disciplinary research at Cardiff University.
In addition to her thesis, she is working in the research project of Biosecurity and Risk Management of BRASS, which include two research proposals on the European regulation of Functional Food and Risk Management, and in CSR of Biotechnologies.
