Fabien Martinez - PhD Scholar

PhD title: Operational and syncretistic perspectives on corporate environmental performance

Background & Qualifications:

Fabien joined the ESRC Centre for Business Relationship, Accountability, Sustainability and Society (BRASS) in September 2008 to undertake research into corporate social responsibility.

He holds a 1+3 PhD Studentship and is currently working on a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Ken Peattie, Dr. Diego Vazquez and Dr. Natalia Yakovleva. His PhD thesis focuses on the compatibility between business performance and environmental and social responsibility. The aim of the research is to examine how businesses may adopt ‘green’ practices while meeting objectives of growth, development, shareholders’ value creation and profitability.

As well as contributing to a number of conferences throughout Europe, Fabien was involved as a researcher in a ‘Lean and Green’ research project in 2010 in collaboration with the LERC department of Cardiff Business School.

Fabien holds an MSc in Business Management from Napier University (2007) and MSc in Social Science Research Methods (2009) from Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University.

Research Interests

Fabien’s PhD thesis investigates the integration of Environmental Social Responsibility (ESR) into businesses strategic agendas. The aim of the research is to clarify the end goals of ‘green work’ and examine how environmental initiatives are implemented, notably as a means to stimulating business (operational and financial) performance.

Honours

2010: Best Doctoral Paper Award at the Corporate Responsibility Research Conference 2010 in Marseille.

2007: University Medal for overall ‘outstanding achievements’ (top of the MSc ‘cohort’).

2006: University Prize for the best dissertation written on a business ethics topic. Awarded by the Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators William Mckenzie Memorial Bursary.
