Background
Policy-makers are increasingly concerned with the environmental as well as the economic impacts of major sport events. This research area shows how two separate though related methodologies (Ecological Footprint and Environmental Input-Output Analysis) can be used to provide conclusions on the economic and environmental impacts related to event visitation. Our research demonstrates the value of these two techniques and how they provide different perspectives on the environmental effects of case study events. This research is set in the context of a shortage of tools with which to assess the environmental effects of events, and in particular, tools linking event-related consumption to environmental effects.
