Sustainable and socially responsible business is not only about conventional commercially motivated companies, it also involves social enterprises (businesses motivated primarily by social aims) and other ‘Third Sector’ organisations. BRASS has been at the forefront of research in the role of Social Enterprise in sustainability, including projects to develop sustainability indicators for social enterprise, and researching the role that they play in key sustainability sectors such as waste. BRASS also produced a research monograph on Social Enterprises for the ESRC and played a key role in a series of research agenda-setting seminars.
